Here’s a great resource from Breaking News English, based around a news report on Sony’s up-and-coming e-paper watch. The news story is written at 3 different levels of difficulty, and comes with a lesson plan and activities underneath the news report. For online lessons, some of the suggested activities would need to be adapted or discarded, but there are some great activities designed to build your student’s vocabulary and grammar as well as their reading skills.
I particularly like the “Read” activities which you can choose from a list the top of the page. These activities include a text sorting activity and a text building activity which can be done online. To do these activities with your student, you could run the activity on your computer and share your screen with your student, and ask them to give you the answers. This forces them to practise speaking with you.
Breaking News English is run by Sean Banville. The site contains loads of news-based reading materials with activities like these. Check it out!
